Kate Winslet On Board For The ‘Avatar’ Sequels

Kate Winslet

Are you ready for this titanic reunion?

Yes, Kate Winslet is about to join the “Avatar” franchise, reuniting with the “Titanic” director James Cameron once again after two decades.

20 years have passed since Kate Winslet portrayed Rose in Titanic, and now the actress has signed on to star in the upcoming Avatar sequels.

The filmmaker just started production on the four upcoming Avatar sequels and with Winslet now joining the cast – to play a character called Ronal – the pieces are slowly but surely falling into place.

“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron said to Deadline. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

Although we don’t know the exact details about what Winslet’s character will be up to in the new Avatar sequels, we do know she will appear alongside Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Cliff Curtis and that she will be one of the leads.

Why Their Reunion For Avatar Might Be An Awkward One

If we rewind a little bit and remember Winslet’s comments about working with James Cameron after their collaboration on “Titanic,” we may conclude that the two still might have some bad blood between them.

Namely Kate.

What happened was that, after shooting the epic 1997 movie and getting pneumonia in the process, Winslet talked to several big magazines about working with Cameron, and she didn’t really have only nice things to say about Cameron.

“I would only work for Jim Cameron again for a lot of money,” she said to L.A. Times, while in her 1998 interview with Rolling Stone, Kate discussed the public image of her then chubby body.

Apparently, the nickname that Cameron gave her was “Kate Weighs-a-Lot.”

“I was chubby as a child,” said Winslet at the time. “When I was sixteen, I was fat. It was a family thing. We’re all big eaters. My uncle is a chef. My mother is a fantastic cook. Kind of unavoidable. I sensibly lost the weight doing Weight Watchers. End of story.”

It will definitely be interesting to see if Kate and Cameron will get along working on the Avatar sequels. The first of the Avatar follow-ups hits big screens on 18 December 2020.
