If you are a sci-fi geek yourself, you probably have your own opinion on the subject matter, but this never-ending question may finally have the right answer.

Which is franchise is better, “Star Wars” or “Star Trek”? According to Bill Nye “The Science Guy”, Star Trek is better.

Let’s see why.

The Force is Forced

The two seemingly similar franchises share most of their fans, they have similar themes, both take place in the beauties of outer space, and both have managed to become hugely popular in modern cinematography, there seems to always be the war between the two. Bill Nye is, apparently, on team Star Trek.

“Star Wars has magic in it! The Force is like a ghost or magic or religion,” says Bill and adds:

“[Star Trek is] an optimistic view of the future with science. Anti-matter contained in magnetic fields, real physics… [in Star Wars] there’s an invisible thing that has superpowers, but in Star Trek they didn’t do that.”

Bill obviously prefers the story that is based on science facts and scientifically plausible ideas, rather than much more mystical basis, that is The Force.

He also believes that the science behind Star Trek has always been a key part of the fiction, as opposed to the obvious fantasy of Star Wars. The genre is called science-fiction, not fantasy-fiction.

(Star Wars fans start to complain in 3, 2, 1…)
