10 Weirdest Existing Film Genres

Symphonie-diagonale

3. Absolute Film

Most of these weird film genres are completely and utterly ‘cucu’, and Absolute Film is no different.

Pioneered mostly by painters Walter Ruttmann, Oskar Fischinger, Hans Richter, and Viking Eggeling, Absolute Film is a nonrepresentational film that is pretty much focused on abstract paintings animated for the purpose of the film. Absolute Film primarily focused on visual effects and it was avant-guard in the 1920s when it first came out.

Film makers focusing on this genre drew their inspiration from the world of fine arts and various related developments to make such films as Berlin: Die Sinfonie der Grosstadt, Rhythmus 21, Seelische Konstruktionen, Symphonie diagonale, and Opus IV.
