2. Schindler’s List

A true story of Oskar Schindler during World War II – a man who saw the Jewish Holocaust in Holland and changed from corrupt businessman to a concerned employer.

Liam Neeson plays a man who is stricken by his conscience in this black and white drama.

Schindler is a businessman in occupied Poland with a factory full of Jewish workers. After seeing how the Jews are being persecuted, he becomes worried about their fate.

He turns his factory from a profitable business to a refuge for Jews. Schindler is able to save over 1,000 Jews from the gas chambers.

Schindler came to Poland to take advantage of the cheap labor offered by Polish Jews. He opened up a factory that produced German military goods. Schindler was an active member of the Nazi party and bribed his way into procuring Nazi contracts to make the military supplies.

As WWII continues, Schindler has a change of conscious and he creates a list of “skilled workers”. These skilled workers are not part of the “final solution” that destroys any remaining Jews in the gas chambers at Auschwitz because Schindler has asked that these skilled workers be moved to another factory outside the county.

Schindler has to flee because he is an identified Nazi and financially benefitted from slave labor. The Jews Schindler saved exonerated the shrewd businessman and a tree is planted in his honor in Israel.
