“Family Guy” is out there, over-the-top, and with a definite acquired taste.

Fox cancelled the show after three seasons, but huge DVD sales convinced them that more episodes might be a smart investment.

Brought back after two years, it’s still running today. The show has the distinction of being the very first TV show to be revived based on DVD sales.

Cartoon network bought the rights to the previous seasons of “Family Guy” in 2003 and began airing them on Adult Swim.

Fox released DVD box sets in the same week which sold an incredible 400,000 copies after just one month. After smelling a potential moneymaker, Fox quickly ordered 35 new episodes.
