For the most part of the watching, this is a charming coming-of-age story about a young man finding the friends he needs at the time where they are most important to him, but there’s a dark secret hidden in the film.

The writer and director of this little masterpiece, Stephen Chbosky, manages to integrate it so well that viewers often miss this scene and don’t recognize its awkwardness.
