8. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Directed and written by Frank Darabont and adapted from the Stephen King novella “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption,” the Shawshank Redemption is maybe even the greatest film ever made.

This heart-wrenching story takes us on a journey of Andy Dufresne, a banker who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Prison for the murder of his wife and her lover despite his claims of innocence.

During his time at the prison, he befriends a fellow inmate, Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding, and finds himself protected by the guards after the warden begins using him in his money laundering operation.

The two main parts are brilliantly played by Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. The Shawshank Redemption is strong, realistic, harsh, truly powerful, and will most certainly make you question what’s really important in one’s life.
