Midnight-in-Paris

11. Midnight in Paris

In this 2011 movie by Woody Allen, a screenwriter on a trip to Paris discovers a changed city every time he goes for a midnight walk.

With Owen Wilson in the lead role, supported by Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates, the challenge is that it becomes harder to return to the real Paris at the end of each walk.

Owen Wilson plays Gil Pender, a Hollywood screenwriter who is on holiday with his materialistic fiancé and her affluent parents.

During a midnight wander through the streets of Paris, Gil is encouraged to join a small group of revelers dressed in 1920s style clothing and driving a car from the same era. The group takes Gil to a party where he meets literary greats such as Ernest Hemmingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

It soon becomes apparent that each time the clock strikes midnight, Gil is transported back to the 1920s where he meets and falls in love with the mistress of Pablo Picasso.

“Midnight in Paris” debuted at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to become Woody Allen’s highest grossing film at that time. The movie was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Art Direction and took home the Best Original Screenplay.
