17. Gladiator – Crewman Wearing Jeans

Getting every historical detail of a movie set in the Roman Empire isn’t easy, and Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” certainly has a few errors.

There are also appearances by crew and equipment to destroy the realism.

In one scene, a member of the crew wearing jeans can be seen in the background as Maximus feeds a horse.

A stuntman wearing safety boots makes an unexpected appearance in one of the chariot race sequences. Power cables and lights can be seen several times during the extended version of “Gladiator.”

In addition to the challenges of creating huge crowds and realistic fight sequences, the special effects crew on the movie had to digitally replace the deceased Oliver Reed in come scenes.

Russell Crowe was praised for bringing the lead character to life, and his performance led to offers of roles in many other great movies. Movies like “Gladiator” can fall flat if the audience can’t relate to the lead, and Crowe certainly delivered here.
