The True Golden Globes Winners And Losers

January 12, 2015

Now that the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards ended and the awards were distributed, you might think that you have a clear image of who did what and how well.

But there are certain aspects of these awards that are invisible to the layman’s eyes. With that in mind, let’s do a quick recap of this year’s true Golden Globes winners and losers.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Even though the movie missed out on Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Actor – Comedy/Musical, Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” emerged victorious after snatching the Best Picture award.

With “Birdman” as its top competitor, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” certainly had a rough ride this year, but in the end it came out as a winner.

Selma

Despite being one of the most shocking and powerful movies of 2014, “Selma” failed to seize the Best Picture – Drama award this year.

Instead, the title went to “Boyhood,” but we still can’t seem to grasp as to why exactly “Selma” didn’t achieve its goal.

The Martin Luther Jr. biopic is an amazing movie, and it was released at the best possible time. Nonetheless, we can see that this loss will most certainly impact “Selma’s” winning chances at the Academy Awards.

Eddie Redmayne

We have to admit that this year’s Golden Globes brought us a pleasant surprise in the Best Actor – Drama category. Benedict Cumberbatch’s role in the “Imitation Game” seemed like a clear winner, but to everyone’s surprise, “The Theory of Everything’s” Eddie Redmayne snatched the award!

Since Cumberbatch did an awesome job in the conspiracy-wargame-biopic, so we can’t say with ease that he didn’t deserve to win this year. And although Redmayne’s performance in the Stephen Hawking biopic certainly deserves our kudos, but we would have loved to see him share the award with Alan Turing from the “Imitation Game.”
