There is something so familiar and traditional about Disney animated movies that makes every person in the world like them. The story is always compelling and fun and the drawings themselves have become something of a standard for drawn animation.

But as everything else is progressing, so is Disney. After their giant success with the “Cinderella,” the famous studio is looking at a remake of yet another classic in live-action – “Mulan.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney just brought in Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek to write the script for the new “Mulan,” while J.C. Spink and Chris Bender are responsible for producing this live-action remake.

As far as we can tell, remaking “Mulan” for the modern audience will be one tough nut to crack.

The 1998 animated movie follows Fa Mulan, a girl who set out to disguise as a man in order to join the ranks of the Chinese army in her father’s stead.

Mulan’s family finds out about her plan, and with best intentions, summons a “Great Stone Dragon” to aid her.

The epic beast turns out to be Mushu, a tiny, silly dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy.

Back in the day, “Mulan” made quite a box office boom when it was released, accumulating a total of $305 million worldwide, and even earning various Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations. “Mulan II” is a disgrace to the original film, and it won’t be discussed here.

The move to remake “Mulan” in live-action style comes as no surprise, especially once we realize that their “Cinderella” remake made over $330 million after only three weeks of showing, while last year’s “Maleficent” amassed $758 million worldwide.

Here’s hoping that “Mulan” makes the cut as well, as it is one childhood experience many of us still remember and cherish.
