Box Office Weekend – When Home Gets Hard

Every couple of weeks a few big movies come out, with the sole intention of dominating the box office. With the weekend as the best time to hit the theaters to see these new titles, here are the winners and losers of this weekend’s box office.

As it seems, DreamWorks really stepped up its game recently, as their newest animation “Home” takes the first place this weekend by earning $54 million worldwide.

This is the first time DreamWorks passed the $50 million mark with a non-sequel movie since the 2009 “Monsters vs. Aliens.”

As for the live-action category, “Get Hard” comes in strong at number two with its $34 million opening.

One might say that the Warner Bros. took a bit of a risk when they teamed up Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell for an R-rated comedy, but as it turns out, it was a risk worth taking.

Lastly, the “Divergent” sequel “Insurgent,” which everyone expected to be a huge hit, actually kind of failed at the box office. Its earning went down 60% in its second weekend, ending up with $86 million. The first installment hit the $94 million mark at the same point, which makes “Insurgent” a lot less successful.
