Another Godzilla Reboot?

After the 2014 reboot of “Godzilla” directed by Gareth Edwards, the audience was split between the innovation of the new movie and the nostalgia of the original franchise.

Now the fans of the monster are given yet another reboot, only this time made by the makers of the original movie, Toho Studios.

According to Variety, the new reboot named “Godzilla 2016” will be co-directed by Shinji Higuchi and Hideaki Anno.

With Higuchi responsible for the VFX and Anno handling the script for the movie, these Japanese filmmakers are ready to once again enter the world of Kaiju.

After the release of the 2004 “Godzilla: Final Wars” and it’s massive box office flop, Toho Studios signed over the rights for the monster flick to Warner Bros., and we’ve seen the result of that with 2014’s “Godzilla” and its $525 million worldwide earning.

As Toho Studios disclosed: “Ever since Hollywood announced that Godzilla was to be resurrected, the expectation for another Japanese Godzilla grew. And if we were to newly produce, we looked into Japanese creators who were the most knowledgeable and who had the most passion for Godzilla.”

“Higuchi’s and Anno’s drive to take on such new challenges was exactly what we all had been inspired by.”

Although the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ “Godzilla” was announced for 2018, the “Godzilla 2016” will have an independent plot and will be arriving to theaters in 2016. Perhaps we might even see two of these giants have a go at each other on the big screen in the near future? Only time will tell.
