According to statistics, theater attendance had a really bad year in 2014, despite the fact that there have never been more blockbusters in such a short time. And the main culprit for this situation is nothing else but high ticket prices.

As The Hollywood Reporter informs us, the ticket prices wet sky-high in the second and fourth quarter or 2014, when the average ticket price varied from $8.30 to $8.33.

These numbers come from the National Association of Theatre Owners, an organization of major chains and independent theatre owners.

Only 1.26 billion people visited their local theaters last year, which is the lowest number in the last 10 years. And now we know why no domestic release made more than $350 million at the box office in 2014.

All these figures can’t tell a lot when it comes to predicting the future of movie-going. Like last year, we’re expecting some pretty big movies in 2015, but we can’t say with certainty that anything can cure this audience drought.
